5 Of The Best Golf Affiliate Programs

We’ll look at a cross-section of companies that are influential in the golfing arena. Keep in mind that golfers spend more money on new clubs and balls each year than is spent by participants in basketball, baseball, and football combined. In fact, based on wholesale equipment dollars, the only recreational sports golf trails behind in the US are camping and fishing.

For many golfers, looking the part as they hit the course is nearly as important as playing well. Hence, trendy golf apparel is a significant industry component as well. We can’t discount things like golf shoes, polo shirts, outerwear, hats, gloves, and sunglasses. Moreover, accessories like golf bags and pull carts have to be considered.

Finally, in the past few years, technology has also stormed this sport with offerings like rangefinders, shot trackers, indoor simulators, and launch monitors. In short, there’s a mind-boggling array of products to review and promote!

Factors Supporting Golf As a Lucrative Niche

Check out these statistics included in the recently published 2019 Golf Industry Report prepared by the National Golf Foundation:

  • Golf represents an $84 billion industry
  • Roughly 24.2 million Americans played golf on a course in 2018
  • Total golfers included 2.5 million junior golfers
  • Golfing ranks included about 6 million female golfers
  • 2.6 million people played golf for the first time in 2018
  • Total golf reach was 107 million if you include people who watched, read or enjoyed off-course golf activities like TopGolf or indoor simulations
  • $2.7 million was spent on golf clubs and balls in 2018 (an increase of 6% over the previous year)

Golfer - Tiger Woods

In 2018, the golf industry unquestionably benefited from Tiger Woods’ unprecedented comeback after repeated back surgeries. Following Tiger’s win in Augusta at the 2019 Masters tournament, I think we can expect a massive surge of interest in this remarkable sport.

These stats above are eye-opening to me. I don’t know about you, but I spot not only multiple niche possibilities but also explosive potential embedded in these facts.

  1. This is an excellent article for those looking for an affiliate marketing niche. A great idea to lead them into Wealthy Affiliate. As you mentioned, golf is a very lucrative business and should start booming in earnest as we head toward the Summer season in Canada and the Northern States. I would be surprised if someone doesn’t latch onto to it and begin their own golfing niche.

This post gets a five-star rating from me. Well done!

    • Hi Ray,

Given the size and diversity of the industry, golf is wide open and represents an extremely lucrative area for many niche affiliate marketers. As discussed in the post, “golf” is far too broad to be considered a niche. But there is an incredible number of subsets into the broader market. Even the youth market can probably be further refined based on age categories or sex of participants. The more narrowly you define your target audience, the better.

I’m pleased you enjoyed the post and found it useful. Thanks for commenting!

  2. Hey Linda,

This is a unique and informative article I must say. It’s really amazing to know that a person can do a lot of things with his passion even can make money through it. I really did not know much about golf affiliate programs. But after reading your article I have come to know many things about how to make money with golf. I did not even know that Amazon offers so much golf equipment, accessories and apparel from different brands and there are so many opportunities for an affiliate marketer.

Thank you very much for sharing this information.

  3. Hello Linda,

I loved reading your post about golf affiliate programs. I would never have thought that it would be possible to create a website based on golf and earn affiliate commissions from it. I used to play golf a lot and after reading your post have had my desire reengaged to work to be able to go again. Membership fees can be expensive. But there is nothing quite like walking the course hitting the ball around (I usually shoot around 100 so I am not great) and get lots of fresh air. I am getting tired of my job and want to start a business online that in time can afford me the luxury of getting out to golf again.

I was not aware of the different affiliate programs available for us to use. I will seriously consider starting my own golf website to promote the sport. Getting more young people into would be a good thing. Finding places they can join for reasonable costs will be important.

Thank you for sharing those stats on how big the golfing industry is in regards to how many people participate in the USA alone. Since Tiger had his problems and stopped winning I thought that golf was in serious trouble. Those numbers are encouraging and if Tiger can keep it up more people will surely join which is great news for those wanting to promote products with affiliate programs.

I look forward to seeing more posts from you in the future. It was a pleasure.

    Proud papa of two,

    • Hi Jody,

I’m sincerely happy you enjoyed the post and particularly pleased that you learned some interesting and useful information. It’s possible to create a niche affiliate marketing website around virtually any hobby or passion. The key is finding a target market that has questions, information needs, and problems in need of a solution.

That said, golf is a particularly exciting area because there are so many enthusiasts and the equipment needs (and desires) are so extensive. It’s true there are a lot of affiliate programs, and once again this is true of most hobbies, sporting pursuits, or anything else for sale online. A recent study indicated that an affiliate is involved in about 81% of all online purchases. To me, that’s a staggering number and clearly spells out the opportunity in affiliate marketing.

Thanks for jumping in. I appreciate your comments!

  4. Thanks for this idea. Golf is the kind of thing that people pay money for. They want to have the nicest stuff. Part of it is about having nice name brand equipment. I like the longer cookie windows on some of those. Right now I am only on Amazon Associates and its cool that you get a bonus for whatever else the person buys. But the 24 hour cookie window is limiting. The one with a 30 day cookie window and 7 to 10 % commission looked nice. I bet there are a lot of golf websites. How would you get any traffic with all that competition?

Well, please keep posting these ideas. I’m doing a website now but it will help me choose my next website when the time comes. Take care.

    • Hi Charles,

Never let competition scare you away from trying to make money with your passion. You would attract traffic for a golf website in the same way you would with any other field. You need to drill down and find narrow pockets of golfers whose needs are not currently being well met.

For example, you might direct your efforts at beginning golfers. 2.6 million people played golf for the first time in 2018. That’s a sizable group of people but only about 10% of the total golfing population. Beginning golfers can be further whittled down to perhaps new senior golfers or first-time junior golfers.

Do your keyword research and identify the low-competition queries that you can address on your site. Then set out to be as helpful as possible in your targeted blog posts. Comprehensive articles that help your audience solve problems and find solutions will draw readers.

Good luck with your website and thanks for joining the conversation!
