Everyone’s looking for a side hustle these days to bring in extra cash, aren’t they? So, a common question people ask is how much can you make with Survey Junkie?

So. let’s take a look at my findings, shall we?

My Rating: 2 out of 5

Recommended?: Yes, for those interested in earning a few extra bucks each month.

What Is Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is a website that pays people to share their opinions on various goods and services by taking surveys in exchange for Points. Participating in product testing or focus groups for pay may also be a possibility.

According to Crunchbase, Survey Junkie launched in 2013. Disqo, Inc. currently owns Survey Junkie. Disqo characterizes itself as an insights platform that helps marketers, researchers, and strategists tune into their target audiences in a way that drives growth.

Survey Junkie is open to members 16 and older who are residents of the US, Canada, or Australia. The platform has more than 10 million members.

How Does Survey Junkie Work?

The first step in the process involves creating an account. Joining is free and takes only a moment or two. You receive an immediate signup bonus of 25 Points. From there, you will begin completing your profile. All survey sites request demographic information from members because surveys are very targeted.

The Brands who are seeking consumer feedback want to ensure they’re asking the opinions of people who are actually part of their target market. Therefore, it helps if members share both general demographics and more specific data in several categories.

Survey Junkie Profile Questionaires

Your reward is 50 Points for completing your General Profile and 10 Points each for the additional categories. Supposedly, the more they know about you, the more surveys you will be offered. Each poll specifies both the number of Points you receive for completion and the estimated time in minutes.

Surveys seem to pay between 5 and 100 Points. Estimated times run from 5 minutes to 25 minutes. Here are a few surveys that are currently available in my account. I initially thought the diamond designs might indicate how close of a match the survey was to my profile. But the FAQ section clarifies they’re just for design.

Sample Survey Offerings

Keep in mind that no one ever qualifies for all (or even most) of the surveys offered. Disqualifications because you’re not a good fit are an accepted part of the paid survey environment. You will also sometimes start a survey only to find out a few minutes later that the survey is filled.

Survey Junkie is very upfront about the fact that you will probably only complete 1 in 5 surveys. You typically receive a consolation reward of 2 or 3 points after getting kicked out of a survey. That’s better than nothing, I suppose

One thing has surprised me since joining this platform. They’re not very transparent about it, but Survey Junkie is more of a survey aggregator. By that, I mean they frequently shunt you off to other 3rd-party providers. So far, I’ve been sent to Toluna and Samplicio.

There are pluses and minuses to working with various providers. On the positive side, there are more total surveys available. The downside is that you keep supplying your basic demographic data repeatedly. I confess that I quickly lose patience with this, myself.

However, I will say that the surveys are engaging. My first survey had an open-ended format and requested a review of my car (at least 250 words) that other consumers would find helpful.  Others were more traditional and involved choosing answers from a list provided or ranking products on a spectrum.

Overall, the process is very simple.

How Does Survey Junkie Work? One advantage is that it’s a convenient and flexible way of earning some extra money. You can take surveys from anywhere and on any type of device. Survey Junkie offers a mobile app that’s available from either the App Store or Google Play. You won’t be making a lot of money, but you can make good use of what would otherwise be downtime.

How Does Survey Junkie Pay You?

When the time comes to get paid, the conversion is very straightforward.

1 Point = 1 Cent

Members can redeem their rewards once they earn1,000 Points. Or, for new members joining after 9/16/2019 when their balance reaches 500 Points. Redemption methods available vary based on your location.

All members can request a payout via PayPal. US members also have the option of requesting an electronic gift card or a direct transfer to a bank account.

If you choose a gift card, you can specify the exact denomination ($5, $10, etc.) But if you select PayPal, you must convert and transfer your entire Point balance. You can’t specify a lesser amount.

Your gift card choices are:

  • Amazon
  • Groupon
  • iTunes
  • Sephora
  • Starbucks
  • Target
  • Walmart

The relatively low threshold for distribution is a nice feature because you don’t feel like it will take forever to see results. There are sites where you can get paid out quicker, like Rewarding Ways. But there are others, for example, Inbox Dollars where you need $30.

Installing Survey Junkie Pulse

Survey Junkie offers a browser extension called Pulse. You see a prompt to install the extension after you join, or you can choose to add it later. Using the extension is optional, but it may result in more surveys tailored to your particular interests. Pulse tracks your browsing habits, and surveys may pop up as you visit specific websites.

Any surveys you see through Pulse are exclusive to you and will not appear on the website. Activity tracking makes some people uncomfortable. But Survey Junkie gives assurances that it does not capture any sensitive data. If you choose to install Pulse, the reward is 50 Points once the extension is active for 30 days.

The Pros

  • Free to Join
  • Questions are simple to answer
  • A flexible way to make some money from anywhere
  • Use your downtime more productively

The Cons

  • Unlike GPT sites, taking surveys is the only way to make money
  • Like all platforms of its kind, you can’t earn a lot of money

Final Thoughts

So, how much can you make with Survey Junkie? In reality, I wouldn’t expect to make much more than $20 to $30 per month, and that’s if you spend time every day on the site. Survey Junkie is unquestionably a legitimate platform where you can make some extra money. It just won’t be a lot.

If you enjoy completing surveys, there’s no reason not to join. But survey sites will never generate a substantial income because of their design. Particularly after you factor in all those disqualifications, the hourly compensation rate is pretty low. With any survey or rewards site, recognize that you will only make a few extra dollars a month.

The extra cash is pleasant but not life-changing. After spending several hours over the course of 2 days, my earnings so far total $3.15. So, let me ask you this. Are you potentially interested in earning more but just don’t know how to go about it? Maybe you’ve even wondered if it was possible to make a full-time income online.

There’s a risk-free platform (free to join) where you can gain a lot of knowledge to help you navigate today’s online world. The purpose of this industry-leading platform is to teach members about affiliate marketing. Learn a four-step blueprint for building an online business that can lead to massive online success for those willing to invest the effort.

  1. Many people who are starting out love the idea of making money from surveys.

However, despite the fact that it looked easy to do to earn easy money online, it is actually much harder than it seemed.

One has to spend a lot of time filling up long surveys only to realize to get paid very little online.

If someone is serious about making money online, making money from surveys will always be a bad choice to choose from.

    • I understand your perspective.  Surveys are very time consuming resulting in a very low rate of pay per hour. There are ways to make considerably more. But those possibilities like affiliate marketing or even freelance writing require much more of a commitment. Not everyone is prepared to invest the effort in starting a business. For those folks, surveys may be a good option.

As far as surveys go, Survey Junkie is one of the better sites online. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. Hi, you are right. The cons seem to outweigh the benefits. Twenty five dollars is easier to make an hour by teaching some skills at the local city adult centers that most established towns offer, at least here in California. Making twenty five dollars by doing surveys in a month is hardly worth anything. Can’t buy McDonalds cup of coffee everyday for that wage.
